A partir deste impasse, recorremos à obra do filósofo Jacques Derrida, principalmente

Abstract
In this thesis, we will analyze Clarice Lispector’s work from the point of view of
the author’s struggle with literature regarding the ability of a text to represent and give
form to events and things that the author wishes to express, and her search for other
artistic forms as possible means for solving this problem. At various points in her work,
especially in her novels, the author produces a writing whose driving force is the
attempt to give form to something she cannot express in words. However, even though
she manages to express herself through letters – after all, we have the final product: the
book she wrote, in our hands – Clarice insists that her writing transcribes a silence due
to the words’ impossibility of providing her with the “thing itself”. Based on this
deadlock, we turn to the work of philosopher Jacques Derrida, especially his
grammatological theory, as a way of understanding how this representational hole that
consumes the word and prevents it from enjoying the “thing in itself” develops. In view
of this phenomenological impasse attributed to writing, Clarice then glimpses the
opportunity for jouissance in other forms of artistic production with more physical
characteristics, such as painting, sculpture, engraving, etc. This movement can be seen
in the chronicles in which the author talks about art, but above all in the choice she
makes to give the protagonists of some of her narratives artistic professions. We will
also relate Clarice’s writings to the work of visual artists who use various forms of
artistic expression, such as Cy Twombly and his abstract expressionism, Mira Schendel
and her graphic and physical interventions on rice paper and Maria Bonomi and her
woodcuts.

movimento, enfim, “o tempo vivo”.

Abstract
In The Dispossessed: an ambiguous utopia, spatial and temporal aspects intertwine at a
narrative and structural level through the mental experiments and corporeal-ethical experiences
of the protagonist, an “Odonian” physicist-mathematician from the planet Anarres. Seeking a
theoretical reconciliation between the sequentialist and simultaneist approaches, the protagonist
acts as a channel of communication between the two antagonistic planets, Urras and Anarres.
Time manifests itself in the novel as a spiraling metaphor that reveals social, moral,
epistemological, and ontological relations intra- and extradiegetically. The dilemma between
theoretical polarities entangles the ambiguity that constructs a “middle path”. Associated with
the metaphorology of Taoism, a philosophy influential in Ursula K. Le Guin’s thinking, the
middle path does not indicate restraint or neutrality, but the reconciliation of the known and the
unknown. By weaving together modern physics, Taoism, anarchism, utopia, and science
fiction, this work can be read as a way of “staying with the problem”, in Donna Haraway’s
words, involving science and politics through discourses that traverse the experience of time in
contemporary everyday life, marked by vertigo, extreme “fatigue,” and the maladies of sleep
deprivation. Some critics suggest that The Dispossessed: an ambiguous utopia can be read as
an “academic novel”, whereby the critique of the rigidity of university thought can be a
possible reading, as well as the socioeconomic constraints that limit the creation of knowledge.
This thesis proposes an analysis of time in the novel as a key to shifting perspectives, aiming
for a reading beyond binary-patriarchal-colonial constraints (even if utopian, even if
ambiguous), through transdisciplinary interactions and based on the structural investigation of
the metaphor that outlines movement—in short, “living time”.

legado, futuro negro e ancestralidade.

Abstract
This research examines the online performance of the group Slam das Minas RJ during the
Covid-19 pandemic through an analysis of the 2020 project Poesia e Território. The aim is to
understand how the project combines different forms of expression (such as interviews,
performances, poems, and music) in order to reconfigure the boundaries between the physical
and the virtual, creating poetics of survival and belonging amid crisis. For this purpose, I
conduct a critical analysis of the project’s five episodes, as well as its zines and playlists,
highlighting the articulation of central themes such as territory, memory, legacy, Black futures,
and ancestry. The study draws on reflections on quilombo, spiral time, and oraliture,
particularly informed by the theoretical contributions of Leda Maria Martins. I argue that by
redefining the virtual environment as a territory of care and belonging, Slam das Minas RJ
constructs a poetics of survival that challenges white normativity and opens alternative
pathways for the circulation of knowledge and voice.

francês do século XIX.
Partindo
produções artísticas reabrem criticamente o “arquivo naturalista”, compreendido no sentido
A hipótese central

Abstract
This dissertation investigates how certain works of contemporary Latin American art mobilize
and re-stage procedures historically associated with naturalism—both that linked to the
natural sciences and scientific expeditions, and the nineteenth-century French literary
movement. Although Süssekind (1984) identifies naturalism as a “specific aesthetic system”
that resurfaces at different moments in Brazilian literature, and Leites (2017) demonstrates the
resurgence of its themes and techniques in Brazilian cinema, such studies remain focused on
the literary-artistic dimension of naturalism. Addressing this gap, the research adopts a
transdisciplinary approach to examine—drawing from a heterogeneous corpus—how
archives, procedures, and modes of making associated with naturalism, understood here as a
kaleidoscope of scientific and aesthetic practices, are reactivated, displaced, and transfigured
in contemporary artworks. The dissertation argues that these artistic productions critically
reopen the “naturalist archive,” understood in the Foucauldian sense as the “law of what can
be said” (Foucault, [1969]2012), that is, the regime of enunciability that shapes both what is
recognized as naturalism and what naturalism itself produces. It contends that the reactivation
of this archive does not imply affiliation with, updating of, or continuity of a naturalist
project, but rather places its premises under tension from situated perspectives capable of
exposing fissures, contradictions, and limits in procedures such as observation, classification,
collection, representation, expedition, and accumulation. The central hypothesis is that, by
reopening an archive that historically consolidated forms of knowing and dominating the
environment, as well as modes of representing and naming human and non-human beings,
contemporary Latin American art not only disputes what “can be said” about these subjects
and worlds, but also what can still be said about naturalism itself and its modes of making.
Based on postcolonial and decolonial premises, this dissertation aims to contribute to fields
such as Comparative Literature, Image Studies, and Environmental Aesthetics, offering a lens
to read the points of contact between past modes of making and their relevance in
contemporary artistic production.
Keywords: contemporary art; naturalism; Latin American art; archive; modes of making.

mente a educação.

Abstract
This thesis is the result of research on the formation of literary readers in secondary
education in the state of Rio de Janeiro, based on official documents that regulate edu
cation. It sought to verify how literary theory is present in this teaching and how it can
contribute to increasing the quality of this training, since the reading habits of Brazilians
have been constantly decreasing in recent years, and the number of readers in the state
of Rio de Janeiro is also declining. Research such as “Portraits of Reading” (2024) hig
hlights this fact. The role of the school, in this context, is fundamental, as it remains
among the main entities responsible for encouraging reading, second only to the family.
The documents analyzed, especially the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC),
emphasize the leading role of Portuguese language classes within the artistic-literary
field for this purpose. However, this was not always the case. In documents such as the
National Curricular Parameters (PCNs), the teaching of Literature was responsible for
this training. With the advent of the BNCC (National Common Core Curriculum), there
was a proposal to reformulate education in which Literature lost its autonomy as a sub
ject, becoming a curricular component of the Portuguese Language subject. This fact is
symptomatic of a profound change in society. *Retratos da leitura* (2024) reveals that
throughout their school life, students decrease their reading volume and that they read
the most in Elementary School, not in High School. Thus, this thesis sought to unders
tand this phenomenon of low reading levels in the state of Rio de Janeiro. To this end, a
survey of official documents guiding the teaching of literature and the formation of lite
rary readers in High School was conducted, examining the formation of the Literature
subject from its origin to its amalgamation with Portuguese Language, as well as the
organization of its curriculum. It was found that the Literature curriculum in the state of
Rio de Janeiro, now within Portuguese Language, has changed little over the years and
that the formation of literary readers is not contemplated in accordance with official
documents. The hypothesis arises that literary theories, especially those dealing with
reception, could contribute to this formation in association with literary and informatio
nal literacy (Cosson, 2021b), demonstrated here with literacies in gender, indigenous,
and racial issues. Furthermore, it was understood that there is a specific literary kno
wledge that is still little explored in teaching and that can be systematized and delimited
in the training of teachers with degrees in Literature, with a view to improving the lite
rary reading skills of high school students. This leads to the proposal of literary educati
on as a field of knowledge to be organized by educators within the Portuguese Langua
ge discipline, and the proposal for the return of the Literature discipline not only in high
school, but especially in it, despite many schools still maintaining this discipline in
practice. This defense is based on the observation that this field, in turn, encompasses its
own competence: the literary one.

Abstract
This thesis investigates J. M. Coetzee’s trilogy (The Childhood of Jesus, The
Schooldays of Jesus, The Death of Jesus) from the question of what animals can teach us
about poetics. In dialogue with Brian Massumi, Gregory Bateson, and the notion of
animal metacommunication, it argues that Coetzee’s aesthetic construction demands a
reconfiguration of the concept of mimesis. The central hypothesis is that the boy David,
by refusing the representational reading of Don Quixote and by invoking numbers
through dance, claims a place in the real that traditional models of mimesis (from Plato
to Auerbach, Iser, and Costa Lima) cannot encompass. The dissertation develops a critical
archaeology of the concept of mimesis and, in dialogue with Derrida, Lacoue-Labarthe,
Haraway, Manning, and Berger, proposes a multispecies literary theory: a set of critical
practices that seek to inhabit texts rather than decipher them, recognizing animals and
literary subjects as beings with whom we can be in relation. In the end, it does not
conclude but offers an entrance: the affirmation that truth, as in Coetzee, lies not in
representation but in relation.

Abstract
The novel “Um defeito de cor” (A Color Defect) by Ana Maria Gonçalves, published in 2006,
narrates the life story of an enslaved woman in 19th-century Brazil. The first-person narrative
is structured around a supposed dialogue between Kehinde, the protagonist, and her missing
son. This is the starting point of a narrative body marked by the enunciative position occupied
by an enslaved Black woman. The novel is, therefore, a fracture in the Brazilian literary system,
which is still lacking in diversity of points of view. The main focus of this research is to analyze
the protagonist’s trajectory in light of decolonial epistemologies. Therefore, one aspect to be
considered is the place of the novel within the Brazilian literary system and how it engages with
tradition and contemporary thought. Furthermore, within the perspective of analyzing the
character’s journey, it is important to consider the concept of diaspora and how individuals
subjected to forced displacement construct material and symbolic territories. In this sense, it is
essential to address issues of time and ancestry that permeate the narrative. The sign of
separation is, however, the main hallmark of Kehinde’s journey, a character who seeks to
reconnect with a lost identity while simultaneously constructing a new perception based on her
experience in diasporic territory. Consequently, this study aims to analyze how this search for
material and symbolic return is realized within the narrative of the novel “Um defeito de cor”
by Ana Maria Gonçalves.

Abstract
This dissertation examines the notion of voice in popular singing through conceptual
contributions from psychoanalysis and literary theory. The corpus analyzed is the album Até
sangrar (2008) by singer Áurea Martins, from which seven musical scenes were selected and
described through a commented listening approach. The methodological proposal consists in
seeking ways to translate into words an experience that belongs to the sonic realm,
articulating, for each musical scene, a conceptual scene. The central question guiding the
study — what does it mean to have a voice? — is mobilized by an episode reported by the
singer early in her career. In 1969, while preparing to appear on the television program A
Grande Chance, broadcast by the now-defunct TV Tupi, a producer remarked that she “had
no voice,” questioning her participation. The comment, made prior to her victorious
performance, is taken as a starting point for examining processes of silencing and vocal
affirmation. The dissertation is divided into two main parts: a politics of voice and a poetics of
voice, structured in chapters and sections organized around the musical scenes analyzed. The
first situates silencing in relation to structural mechanisms, emphasizing the act of taking the
floor, while the second locates silence as a condition of listening. The study is grounded on
the hypothesis that one must leave silence in order to hear it in its resonant potential beyond
intelligible meaning. Throughout the investigation, conceptual pairs are mobilized, such as
voice–listening, sound–meaning, landscape–noise, performance–resonance, and voice–language. The dissertation concludes that rhythm constitutes the articulating axis between voice and language, allowing the sonic dimension to emerge in its materiality.

Abstract
To understand the work Impressões de viagem: cpc, vanguarda e desbunde (1980) and its rela
tionship with contemporaneity this study explores the debate surrounding Brazilian literary
criticism in the 70s. The book, which addresses the production of contemporary poetry from
the 60s and 70s, is the result of Heloisa Teixeira’s (Helô Teixeira) doctoral thesis defended in
1979 and deals mainly with the various modes of engagement that the poetic production of the
time articulated, such as the populist engagement of the 1960s, the tropicalist anarchist critique
of the early 1970s, and the vitalist alternative of the marginal poetry in the second half of the
decade. The main objective of this thesis is to investigate the theoretical and critical aspects of
H.T.’s academic writing in order to analyze a series of questions raised by H.T.’s doctoral re
search, questions that are relevant to the ongoing debate on literary policy within the scientific
and university environment of the time. To this end, the historiographical reading is summa
rized in newspaper articles from the time via a set of four texts published in Opinião in 1975,
in the biographical essay O sangue de uma poeta (MORICONI, 1996), in the text “Democra
tização no Brasil (1979-1981)” (SANTIAGO, 2004), and other bibliographic references such
as “Quantas margens cabem em um poema?” (COELHO, 2013) and “Crítica cultural em ritmo
latino” (SOUZA, 2005). Historically situating Impressões de viagem allows for an editing/in
terpretation of the academic role Heloisa Teixeira aimed for at the time, a role that was pri
marily deviant from the prevailing institutional norms. It is believed that Heloisa’s text ap
proaches a cultural critical reading, pointing to theoretical germinations akin to cultural stud
ies. Beyond its pioneering nature, the debate is interested in the symptoms—theoretical and
political—of an era and how they can be read today. With a hybrid methodology of biograph
ical criticism, close reading of the text, and bibliographic research, this research seeks to be a
contribution to the literary historiography of literary studies within a specific thematic and
temporal framework. It is argued that the category of innovation has been present since Teixei
ra’s first intellectual works. Her evaluative scale as a critic necessarily involves the political
and cultural aspects that contemporary literary production can have, electing for her work a
non-immanentist conception of literature always placed in relation to society.

Abstract
The thesis explores the notion of nudity in Georges Bataille in an essayistic manner,
attempting to align and misalign the little that the writer left on the notion with what was
later developed by his readers. Formally more present at the heart of the project Bataille
would have called The Atheological Sum, nudity, in addition to directly referencing the
Judeo-Christian tradition – at times subverting it – appears to be a kind of imagistic,
philosophical, and literary resource employed by the author when he sought to address,
simultaneously, human animality and its erotic and transgressive possibilities, in such a
way that neither the body of writing nor the writing of the body could be separated
anymore. The writing of this nudity and the nudity of this writing, as Bataille said of the
formless, “do not find anywhere the permanence or the guarantee of their meanings”, but,
in the erotic and personal multiplicity (“pornoautographic”) that they expose, they
continue to resonate within subsequent theories of poetry, visual arts, and psychoanalysis.

A escolha

Abstract
This dissertation investigates versions of the allegory of the Galician nation in
contemporary children’s and young adult literature, represented as an old woman, by
analyzing a corpus of works that we believe engage in dialogue with the short story A
velliña vella (1925) by Vicente Risco: Os soños na Gaiola (1968) by Manuel María,
Malpocada, a vella (1973) by Dora Vázquez, Dona Galicia (1979) by Kristina Berg, and
A Brétema (1999) by María Victoria Moreno. Taking Risco’s A velliña vella (1925)—a
text inspired by William Butler Yeats’s play Cathleen Ni Houlihan—as a point of
departure, we observe the emergence of an elderly female figure who embodies not only
the land but also the historical experience of colonial subalternity. This palimpsest
contains many layers, and we were able to verify that the feminization of Galician land
corresponded to a process of constructing a symbolic matria body, through which a series
of political mechanisms aimed at maintaining power and metaphorically castrating
Galicia in relation to Spanish centralism were enacted and perpetuated through the
creation of images within literary discourse. The aged body emerges as a totemic symbol
of the power of images derived from discourses, fictional narratives, and subjective
constructions of hierarchized identities, which, in the Galician context, conveyed the
premonition of Galicia’s figurative and literal “death.” In the narratives analyzed, the “old
woman” ceases to occupy traditional roles associated with the marvelous and becomes a
metaphor for the degradation produced by processes of political and cultural domination.
Marked by abandonment and suffering, these characters address younger generations,
becoming devices of memory and denunciation. The theoretical framework of this
dissertation combines reflections on national identity and gender representations,
imagology, and children’s and young adult literature. We draw on the formulations of
Ernest Renan and Matthew Arnold concerning the characterization and feminization of
the Celts, expanded by the analyses of Helena Miguélez-Carballeira and Marjorie Howes,
who critically examine the misogynistic elements of these images. To address the
specificities of children’s and young adult literature in minoritized languages, we rely on
the work of Agustín Fernández Paz, Blanca-Ana Roig Rechou, and Montse Pena Presas,
whose research enables us to understand how these narratives participate in the
construction of identity models in minority contexts.

Abstract
Aldir Blanc is one of the greatest and most important poets of Brazilian song. According to the
writer Sérgio Rodrigues, his work “merges the lyrical and the antilyrical in a new unity that it is
no longer possible to break”, in an alliance “between the sublime and the grotesque, which can
be called neo-baroque, a key to the reading of the Brazilian soul that deserves attention”. In this
thesis, we seek to unravel some of the meanings of this “reading of the Brazilian soul”,
considering the work of the lyricist who was called “Goldsmith of Slang Words” by Dorival
Caymmi as an interpretation of Brazil and its quarrels.
Luiz Antonio Simas hit the target with unerring accuracy when he stated that Brazilianness “is in
every verse of Aldir Blanc.” And Tales Ab’Saber too, saying he was “an Eshu, incarnate, of the
dream of a people in their own history.” To quote another verse by Aldir, “but this one is true.”
In the depths of the “dream of a people in their own history,” we hear the Ronco da Cuíca, snoring
with hunger. And amidst this dream, Aldir’s verse-universe is precisely this crossroads between
the old cucumbis, ranchos, and carnival blocks, the percussion sections of the samba schools, a
painting by Bosch, Rabelais’s Gargantua and Pantagruel, a film by Fellini, lundus and modinhas
by Caldas Barbosa, a polka by the famous Pestana, anonymous waltzes, Chiquinha Gonzaga’s
corta-jaca or a samba “amaxixado” by Sinhô; the tangos of Nazareth and the sambas of Noel,
Ismael, and the entire Estácio circle. In the dream, on some old street behind Central do Brasil,
Augusto dos Anjos takes a few drinks, with Vagalume and Lima Barreto by his side. The Aleph
is an old opele forgotten in some old house on Barão de São Félix Street, where João do Rio,
completely unaware of anything, consulted Ifá. All of this lies at the crossroads of time formed
by “the most powerful unconscious of Brazilian song,” as Francisco Bosco observed. And I would
go further: one of the most powerful creative unconsciouses in Brazilian culture. It’s the
polyphony and polyrhythm to make Mikhail Bakhtin’s legs twitch.

1830.

Abstract
This thesis examines Aleksandr Pushkin’s (1799–1837) critical practice, dispersed
across prefaces, notes, letters, articles, and his own narratives, and highlights the fragment
as a central instrument of expression. It argues that the fragmente – both an aesthetic device
and a strategy for circumventing censorship – produces a form of critique immanent to the
work itself. By addressing primarily his peers as empirical interlocutors, Pushkin projects
and shapes an imagined audience out of a readership not yet fully constituted, establishing
new modes of reading and the conditions for the formation of a Russian literary tradition.
His work becomes a space of debate: controversies of the period are absorbed and
reconfigured within the texts, especially through digressions that shift themes from
periodicals into fiction. This gesture reveals an ambivalent relationship with the public,
oscillating between specialized dialogue and the desire to reach common readers. The
analysis also considers the tensions between literary movements that shaped these practices.
Conceptually, it discusses the notions of criticism and fragment in light of German
Romanticism and their adaptation to the Russian context. Textually, it describes the concrete
manifestation of the fragment in Pushkin’s critical and fictional work and its role in the
formation of the reader. It is shown that under censorship, exile, and ongoing disputes with
journal critics, Pushkin – through ruptures and digressions – transforms fiction into a space
of reflection and redefines the place of criticism. The hypothesis is tested in finished and
unfinished texts – some translated here for the first time into Portuguese – as well as in
reviews and articles from the 1820s and 1830s.

extrema? Como a linguagem cartografa essas histórias? Em meio a essas perguntas, me

impasses do nosso tempo.

Abstract
This research seeks to think about the relevance of Bertolt Brecht in the face of the advance of the extreme right, not only
in Brazil, especially with the election of Jair Messias Bolsonaro in 2018 to the presidency of the Republic, but also around the
world. To do this, we examined the play Terror and misery of the Third Reich. We try to show how, in presenting the lives
devastated by the Third Reich, the German playwright, by mourning them, makes it possible for there to be a very forceful critique
of the violence of German fascism, which can help us to think about the impasses of our time.

Abstract
The present dissertation, “Fragment of Love and Mourning: the Perpetual Fabric of
Writing by Hélène Cixous and Roland Barthes”, proposes to construct a fabric of the
authors’ writing based on the image of the silkworm, evoked by Jacques Derrida, as a
figure connecting love and mourning in a fabric that becomes body. The research takes
the act of writing itself as the guiding gesture of analysis: writing as a gesture of love,
mourning, presence, and dissolution, as manifested in the manuscripts of Cixous and
Barthes consulted at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. By tracing these gestures, the
dissertation examines how writing intertwines in continuous threads, where life and
death, presence and absence, memory and body converge, constituting a perpetual fabric
of meaning in constant motion. The manuscripts thus reveal themselves as spaces of
inscription of love and mourning, and writing as a gesture capable of perpetuating
affective and ethical relations between word, body, and memory.

O objetivo central desta tese é investigar a construção rítmica de The Waves, obra publicada
experimentações formais propostas em The Waves.
composição do ritmo.

formal experimentations proposed in The Waves. Then, we start an in-depth analysis of the
book, considering Woolf’s literary project and the formal aspects employed for the
composition of the rhythm. In this process, we focus on sonorous reverberations, imagery,
punctuation, phonemic patterns and metrics, understanding recurrence as a compositional
principle. At the same time, we observe the interweaving of various artistic expressions in
the book, giving special attention to poetry, drama and music. Finally, we present a few
conceptual discussions about rhythm, analyzing their possible resonances in The Waves.
Keywords: The Waves; Virginia Woolf; rhythm; sonorous composition; phonemic patterns;
structural analysis; rupture; recurrence.

A presente tese analisa como a literatura negra reconfigura questões passadas, contribuindo
para preencher lacunas deixadas pela historiografia oficial. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa utiliza
As

Abstract
This dissertation analyzes how Black literature reconfigures past experiences, contributing to
the filling of gaps left by official historiography. To this end, the study adopts as its corpus the
novels Ponciá Vicêncio (2017), by the Black Brazilian writer Conceição Evaristo, and Beloved
(1987), by the Black African American writer Toni Morrison. Historical gaps concerning Black
people have produced silences forged to uphold a patriarchal and racist system that persistently
denies the importance of Black women in social formation. Through the interweaving of the
concept of rememory, presented by Morrison in Beloved, and escrevivência, a concept coined
by Evaristo (2005), the novels construct fictional narratives committed to exposing not only
the atrocities of the period of enslavement but also Black and female resistance in Brazil and
the United States. As a specific objective, this study examines how Black female subjectivity is
inscribed in these works through the articulation of these concepts. To this end, the notion of
escrevivência is analyzed as life-writing, grounded in the understanding that the particularities
of Black womanhood—shaped in the narratives by the tragedy of slavery—constitute the raw
material for rememoration. Accordingly, this research engages with studies on themes such as
motherhood, affect, enslavement, and corporeality as a site of memory. The analysis is enriched
by theoretical contributions from scholars such as Leda Maria Martins (2003), who discusses
the concept of spiraled time; Lélia Gonzalez (1984), with reflections on race and gender; and
Oyèrónkẹ́ Oyěwùmí (2021), who offers a critical perspective on the construction of female
identities in postcolonial contexts. Additionally, Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s (2016) reflections
on the production of history and the significance of silenced voices, as well as Paul Ricoeur’s
(2007) discussions of memory and narrative, are fundamental to contextualizing the debates
proposed herein. This study aims to contribute to Black studies, Comparative Literature, and
related fields by addressing the intersectional discrimination experienced by Black women.

Palavras-chave: sereias; bestialidade; feminismo; representações do feminino.
Abstract
This thesis seeks to present how the Sirens, singers, initially monstrous, deadly and, namely
from the iconography since Antiquity, hybrids, first represented in the Homeric Odyssey (8th
century BC, in its “pan-Hellenic” or more formative period), permeate the imagination(s) of
various poets and artists, spanning centuries, with different forms, contexts and approaches.
Thus, from plural perspectives, and multiple views, they reach contemporary times, having
gone through historical situations that culminated in a certain misogyny, bestiality, inferiority
and objectification of their figure. Now, using the voice that was once used to enchant, they
reaffirm themselves as symbols of resistance against a patriarchal and misogynistic model
that has spread since the Middle Ages. The evocation of her image as a voice in
contemporary times seeks, based on feminist conceptions and practices, to question
objectifications and standards, in addition to creating ‘new Mermaids’, who personify women,
in their diverse subjectivities, promoting a more comprehensive representation (and
representativeness), including those that, according to society, do not meet beauty, aesthetic
and behavioral standards.
Keywords: sirens; mermaids; bestiality; feminism; feminist representations.
