The Postgraduate Program in Letters (Literature Sciences) at UFRJ was founded in 1970, when the foundations of the current Brazilian Postgraduate system were being structured. Over more than four decades, it has been training masters and doctors who have contributed significantly to teaching and research in the country, since a significant number of graduates are absorbed in the teaching staff of higher education institutions in several states of Brazil – not only in the area of letters and linguistics, but also in courses in theater, dance, education, philosophy, communication, etc.
