The Postgraduate Program in Letters (Literature Sciences) at UFRJ was founded in 1970, when the foundations of the current Brazilian Postgraduate system were being structured. Over more than four decades, it has been training masters and doctors who have contributed significantly to teaching and research in the country, since a significant number of graduates are absorbed in the teaching staff of higher education institutions in several states of Brazil – not only in the area of ​​letters and linguistics, but also in courses in theater, dance, education, philosophy, communication, etc.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS ADMISSION

1 – Through annual selection process open to both Brazilian and foreign candidates (in a total of 15 students per year for each level – master’s and doctoral). In this case, applicants need to wait for the release of the selection announcement (which usually occurs between late August and early September each year), candidates must register by posting their document (application form, copies of diplomas, research bill and other documents required in the announcement, available on the webpage of the Post-graduation Department of the UFRJ Department of Languages:

The stages of the selection process are carried out in the UFRJ Department of Languages. All candidates qualified for the positions, as long as they do not have employment and want to establish their normal residence in Rio de Janeiro, can apply for grants of shares of Brazilian funding agencies available to the program. The Portuguese proficiency exam (CELPE-Bras) and the presentation of document for diplomas revalidation obtained at foreign universities are required and can be made after the approval of the selection process.

2 – Via unique foreign students selection process (in a total of two vacancies per year for each level – master’s and doctoral) – The selection is made in the same period of the selection process mentioned above, with the presentation of the same documents. The difference is that the candidate for these positions is exempted from the exam of specific knowledge and the project oral test is done via Skype, with date and time scheduled at the time of registration approval. Entering candidates for this selection process are not entitled to apply for grants of Brazilian funding agencies shares available to the program. The Portuguese proficiency exam (CELPE -Bras) and the document presentation of diplomas revalidation obtained at foreign universities are required and can be made after the approval of the selection process.

3) Via Student-Agreement Graduate Program CAPES/CNPq (PEC-PG) – Students from countries served by the PEC-PG can register for getting job and scholarship directly from the Brazilian funding agencies. The GP candidate in Literary Science must submit the draft research program to program email address in advance for evaluation and possible issuance of letter of acceptance to be attached to documents for registration with the agencies.

4 – Through PAEC-OEA/GCUB – As annual resolution of the Program Exchange Commission, scholarship quota funding agencies Brazilian students can be provided to participating countries of the Organization of American States (OAS). Application information about such grants are available on the site:
